Start small in order to become great! Training for Warriors Portland


Coach Josh here at Training for Warriors Portland to talk about doing one thing at a time... before moving on the next. Start small to be great!

It just takes one step. I believe Lao Tzu says, “A journey of 1000 miles begins with one step.”  That is absolutely true!

When friends look at my program and the method, they are startled by how simple it is.

"Oh, you just do some squats and deadlifts and sprints, and lift heavy. THAT’S IT, that’s all you do?!" 

HOWEVER, I find it really fascinating because over time I notice the ones with really advanced strategies and highfalutin goals, are the ones who often stumble as they execute their plan. They had so many objectives they were trying to accomplish, they never really finished ONE thing. 

Keep it simple

One of the things we do here at TFW is, we keep it real simple.

Simplicity makes it really easy to become successful-- e.g. knock out a couple sprints, doing some bench press. etc...

If you look at it in one bite-size piece, it’s not that much. It’s really do-able! Over the long haul (weeks and months), you get gradually in better and better shape. You constantly improving your maxes, PRs, physical fitness. 

Keep it consistent

But it doesn’t happen through a dramatic 15 pound weight loss trick or a 28 day detox. It happens day-in and day-out, doing the things that work... doing them over and over again.

It’s not eating broccoli once, it’s eating broccoli every day

It’s not getting a good night sleep ONCE, it’s getting a good night's sleep, every night

That accumulates to a complete lifestyle change.

You become that things that you want. Your body and mind start to become your habits. That’s the whole point of habit change, or trying on a transformation or training in general. You are PRACTICING your practice.

You’re becoming these habits you’re trying to adopt. It doesn’t need to be complex! In fact, the simpler it is, the easier it is to execute:

  • start small
  • stay on track
  • be consistent
  • don’t be amazing- don’t worry about being great! Just do a little good, every single day.

Always trying to find new ways to help YOU bring out the warrior within!
