Nächstenliebe! Love the person next to you. TFW Portland
Coach Josh from Training for Warriors PDX... and we’re talking about love ALL WEEK LONG! Today, I’m going to talk about one of the core values of TFW.
It’s actually my favorite value at Training for Warriors: nächstenliebe.
Nächstenliebe roughly translates into charity. But the way that we use it here, we talk about being more excited about somebody else than you are about yourself: love the person next to you.
For me, this is the most important value I’ve gotten out of Training for Warriors.
When I am really excited about other people, when I’m really rooting for my students and excited about the achievements of others, it takes me out of MYSELF. Which is a pretty important process for me, since I spend a lot of time in my head… and I don’t need to spend any more time there than necessary! Being focused on the victory and the achievements of others gives me something to get really excited about.
I can share in this feeling of elation when someone:
- Learns a new lift
- hits a PR
- learns a new way of eating, like trying broccoli for the first time
Those kinds of things get me really really excited because I know those changes have deep, DEEP roots. And their effects are very long lasting. I’m always excited to see somebody grow.
Being more excited about somebody than you are about yourself.
If you have that idea rattling around in your mind, it’s something you can always practice... and practice for free! It will take you out of yourself and will get you positively engaged in your community/environment.
This is another message of love from Coach Josh at Training for Warriors PDX. This time talking about loving the person next to you, by being more excited about them than you are about yourself. Give it a shot and see what happens!
Until then, I’m here... helping YOU bring out the warrior within.
